Rory Coleman will be running 160 miles from his home county of Nottinghamshire to London dressed in a gorilla suit to raise funds and awareness for the Gorilla Organization. The journey will take four days. That works out at more than a marathon a day! His aim is to reach London in time to take part in the Great Gorilla Run on Saturday 26th September.
Rory is no stranger to physical challenges. He has run an astounding 624 marathons (the last one was last weekend), 150 ultra marathons, and he holds nine world records for distance running. However, fifteen years ago, when he had just turned 30, he was an overweight alcoholic smoking 40 a day. His doctor warned him that he might not reach the age of 40 if he didn’t change his lifestyle. He started training, and within three months he had completed his first half marathon. He now works as a personal trainer and life coach, and undertakes extreme physical challenges for charity.
Rory’s gorilla run starts at the Go-Ape Forest Adventure centre at Sherwood Pines near Mansfield on Tuesday 22nd September. From there he will run through Nottingham, Leicester, Northampton, Milton Keynes, stop off at the Go-Ape centre in Woburn, and finally on to London. The journey takes him down many of the major A roads so watch out for him. He’s on the lookout for some supporters along the route so contact the GO office if you’d like to help out.

A special thanks to the Belmont Hotel, Leicester, The Inn, Woburn, and the London Elstree Premier Inn who have all offered free accommodation to Rory.
