What a day!
Sun, samba bands, TV presenters, ultra-runners, giant gorillas, a knuckles runner and, keeping the runners on the tips of their toes, a last minute de-tour across the wobbly bridge – the Great Gorilla Run 2009 had it all!
Congratulations to all the Great Gorillas who helped the Gorilla Organization take London by storm.
It’s always hot being a gorilla but Saturday was a September scorcher and it was tough out there but hey, you’re never gonna save an endangered species without a drop or two of sweat.
Or maybe a pint or two in the case of runners this weekend!
It’s hard picking out individuals on a day when so many people came together and gave all to save the gorilla but the Gorilla Organization would especially like to thank:
- TV presenter, Helen Skelton, for firing the starting gun;
- ultra-runner, Rory Coleman, for running four marathons before arriving at the start line on Saturday;
- and gorilla-expert, Ian Redmond, for coming in last having done the entire 7-km course bent over on his knuckles and feet, just as a real gorilla would have done the run!
Thanks to all the supporters who cheered the runners all along the course, the Barking Bateria who gave a beat to run, and all of the Marshals who helped to make this one of the best year’s ever.
And a special thanks to the Great Gorilla Run 2009 sponsors – Explore, Go Ape, Fruit for the Office, Themetraders, GO-rilla, Grumpy Gorilla and Club De Fromage – who have helped make it one of the biggest and best ever.
