elvis1.jpgelvis2.jpgElvis Aaron Presley – American singer and actor, cultural icon, commonly known as ‘The King’ or ‘The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’.

No Great Gorilla Run would be complete without at least one Elvis Gorilla strutting his stuff on the streets of London and making the crowds scream.

Elvis had it all – rhythm, style, charisma, a great voice, rubber lips – all essential elements for a true Great Gorilla.

Elvis began his meteoric career in 1954, pioneering the new rockabilly sound, an upbeat fusion of country and rhythm ‘n’ blues. His songs and style was heavily influenced by ‘black’ music and proved a shocking wake-up call to super-conservative 1950s white America.

Not content with shaking up the music industry, Elvis made a string of successful Hollywood movies before seeing out his career with legendary residences in Las Vegas. And in 1973, Presley staged the first global live concert via satellite, reaching at least one billion viewers live which remains the most watched broadcast by an individual entertainer in television history.

In true Rock ‘n’ Roll style, Elvis checked out early at the age of just 42 but boy did he live those years.

Elvis ‘The King’ (of the Gorillas) we salute you!
