But I’m fairly sure the series will go down in history as a British comedy classic so I’m going to reference it anyway…

Anyone who’s seen it surely couldn’t forget the “Beer” episode.

Rowan Atkinson’s character has to demonstrate his machoness to Queen Elizabeth in a drinking competition, whilst concurrently hosting a dinner for his puritan auntie and uncle at which they will discuss his inheritance.

If you’ve seen it, you will need no further reminder of the characters played by Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie and Miranda Richardson.

If you haven’t, I strongly recommend seeking it out on UK Gold, pay-per-view or good ol’ fashion DVD.

My favourite bit is when Blackadder returns to his seat at the puritan dining table wearing a pair of comedy breasts and after his auntie points out his “devils dumplings”.

He quickly saves the day by placing them on his head and exclaiming “oh my god, my ear muffs have fallen down!”

Comedy genius without a doubt and it was fantastic to see a couple of Great Gorillas paying homage in the Great Gorilla Run 2009.
